:  a skin graft that consists of thin strips or sheets of epithelium with the tops of the dermal papillae and that is split off with a sharp knife

Biographical Note for THIERSCH GRAFT

Thiersch, Carl (1822–1895), German surgeon. Thiersch is famous for introducing epidermal grafting in plastic surgery and for his monographs on epithelial cancer of the skin and the healing of wounds. He introduced the Thiersch graft in 1874.
